Halloween Grazing Board
How to create a Seriously Good Halloween grazing board. We love Halloween at Lottie Shaw’s, but forget the tricks, we’re all about treats!
There’s plenty of wicked Halloween treats for the whole family to enjoy at Lottie Shaw’s including our Gingerbread Pumpkins, our Pumpkin Gingerbread Decorating Kit and of course, our signature, award-winning Yorkshire Parkin. They’ll all add a spookily subtle kick of ginger to any Halloween celebration.
In the lead up to the spooky season, we decided to get creative and see how our (not so!) terrifying treats would go down on a Halloween grazing board and called in an expert to help. Emma Bridgeman from Together To Eat is a family food blogger who documents her recipe creations for families with children of all ages. Here, she shares her tips on how to create the perfect Halloween-themed grazing board, using our seriously good scratch-baked treats…
Getting prepared
- You’ll need to an extra-large serving board, chopping board or a tray, for presenting your grazing board. You could go for rectangular, oval or round. You can also have some fun with creative tools to really bring the board to life, including; edible eyes, piping bags to make details such as cobwebs, Halloween cookie cutters, edible food pens and plastic spiders
- Use Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, there are so many creative Halloween board ideas out there, you can pick and choose your favourite elements and recreate
Choosing your food
- Keep it simple, by using some delicious, ready-made Halloween themed treats. Look no further than Lottie Shaw’s for Gingerbread Pumpkins and fun Gingerbread Pumpkin Decorating Kits that can be decorated before, or after the board is served, for an extra slice of spooky fun. Lottie Shaw’s Award Winning Yorkshire Parkin can also be used as a canvas for all kinds of Halloween creativity too. I used white icing and edible eyes to create these cute but simple Yorkshire Parkin mummies, but you can let your imagination run wild!
- Choose as many foods as you can in Halloween colours; greens, oranges, purples, blacks and whites. Fruits are a great way to do that other than sweets; green and black grapes, blackberries, blueberries, clementines, cantaloupe melon
- Go for an array of different size foods and mix up the sizes throughout for variety
- Have fun with your creative tools, adding eyes to fruit and using cutters for bread - just try and keep everything easy to nibble
Finishing touches
Once you’ve pulled the board together, place your (clean) black plastic spiders randomly through the board, sitting on the food for an extra spooky touch. Or, use cookie cutters to cut small stars and Halloween shapes to shape your treats and dot them around the grazing board for a cuter look
